The Evil World Of Technology

Phishing and Malware are definitely on the dark side, and very evil. It's scary knowing that identity theft, hardware damage, and obtaining personal information are happening just using the internet. I will definitely be more cautious and aware cause I won't give up my net surfing. Technology definitely comes with baggage, whether it's good or evil.

I must say that all the different measures we take to be cautious, and to be protected, we still are never safe! Those annoying hackers will always hang around cyberspace!

Blogging out til next time!

Life Long Learning

This weeks title is definitely true.Life long learning will always be a part of our everyday lives. I was very impressed by all the websites for my personal growth, my favorite's were: How stuff works, eHow, 5 minute Lifeopeida, and Berklee Music. I looked up (How cars work) and (Understanding auto parts) since I don't really know all the mechanics involved. On 5 min lifeopedia I searched (How to stencil), I do preferr video format since I'm a visual learner. Stenciling looks so easy and simple now. Ehow rocks, It gave me very useful information on (home repair) since I rather do my own work. For Berklee Music, my niece will definitely be interested in the (guitar course) since it only takes 12weeks to complete the lesson. All these websites will definitely benefit my personal growth and interest.

OCLS AND LIBRARY 2.0

OCLS definitely does recognize the needs of it's communities. The communication the library has with the outside world is amazing, we reach so many people of all ages. The strategic plan is exactly what the library is all about. OCLS is Technology. We have so much to offer to patrons, and staff with all the services we provide. Constant change is happening, and sure enough people seem to be adjusting pretty well, and that's through so many extraordinary ideas for everyday living, and that's through communicating with the ever so changing technology. The library does connect very well to our changing community, and continues to strive to be more than can be imagined.

Also, the Orlando Memory is really neat!

Web 2.0 Contined

Searching for cheaper flights is my kind of deal, I do use Kayak to compare airline prices, and I have found many good deals. It's cool how the prices show up on screen at once for easier and quicker comparison. I had fun with Pan Images, I put in my hometown and sure enough images and description were displayed. Zillow makes it so much easier to acquire property, homes for sale are shown with detailed information and images. I checked out a couple of properties in my area, really cool. Sharing recipes is great on I'm Cooked, although I don't like to cook, I did find some that I could try to make. I think that OCLS alerts are great, receiving text alerts for computer classes, or due dates on items that are approaching. I would definitely benefit from alerts since I tend to forget things.

Change Is Good

Change is what we need, being taken out of our comfort zone can have a better impact in our lives. The library has changed so much from it's appearance, database, collection, computer classes, new programs, teen/club central , Mayl services, downloading audiobooks, and much much more to offer. OCLS has the right mission statement! And of course learning web 2.0 and 2.1. It seems like more people are using the internet for all their sources of information, I wonder in the future if people will visit the library as much, since the library offers so much on the web. Especially Mayl services, people are just too busy to make a quick run to the library, it's more convenient to have the library brought to them. The changing process of the library will continue.

Open Source

Wow, working together with new ideas, communicating, and sharing technology through the web around the world is definitely great open information. Here, at the library we use wikis to share stats, and information on what each dept is focusing on. It was very interesting to learn about Answerbag and Yahoo! Answers, I did ask questions and sure enough got reasonable answers. I'm sure there will be much more software for Open Source, looking forward to finding out whats next.

HEALTH, WELLNESS, TECHNOLOGY, OH MY!

I never imagined in a life time that working out could actually be FUN. I must admit that although I don't work out at all, I would definitely exercise with a Wii Fit. I've played a few games with Wii like the tennis, and bowling, and even playing those games I'd get tired from moving around so much. But it is indeed a lot of fun. That Nike/Ipod connection is just awesome, it must really benefit runners, unlike myself I'm not a runner at all but I'd definitely like to use a pair. The Wireless Ipod Remote is really cool, and well designed. Technology rocks! Just what the world would do without it!
